The U.S.S. Valkyrie was started in 2007 by Andy Peperrell, when it was given the initial name of U.S.S. Ardent. After a few months, however, Andy was unable to continue managing the group and the captain’s chair was handed to Alex McEwan, the current organiser. Alex then changed the name of the group to Valkyrie and the rest is history…
In the years following, we grew in number and reputation, gaining friends and members from all over the UK and abroad. We still stand by our original objective of providing a venue for fans of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror in an open and tolerant environment where all are welcome. We have also started to take a more active role in charity fundraising, with the upcoming September dinner being held to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice Association of Scotland and individual members running under the Valkyrie banner for events such as the Edinburgh Marathon Festival.
We are always open to make new friends and would like to welcome all recruits to the group with open arms! With faith and companionship, we can achieve the aim of the ship’s motto:
TO FACE THE FUTURE WITHOUT FEAR
